If you can plug in a USB drive, you can update your GNS database.
Get a PCMCIA USB Adapter
Purchase a compatible PCMCIA-to-USB card reader/writer from Amazon. These are commodity hardware — typically $15–$30. See our recommended models below.
One-time purchase. Works with any future NavCard GPS update.
Plug In Your Reader and Card
Connect the PCMCIA adapter to your PC or Mac via USB. Insert your existing Garmin data card into the adapter. No drivers needed on Windows 10/11.
Use Chrome or Edge browser — Safari does not support USB device access.
Visit Your NavCard GPS Dashboard
Log into your NavCard GPS account and go to your Dashboard. Click 'Update My Card Now.' The site automatically detects your card and confirms the correct AIRAC cycle.
The site reads your card, confirms compatibility, and shows you exactly what will be written.
Write the Current AIRAC Data
Click 'Write Data.' NavCard GPS writes the current FAA NASR navigation data to your card in 3–5 minutes. A progress bar shows the write status in real time.
Do not remove the card or close the browser during the write process.
Install in Your GNS Unit
Remove the card from the adapter and slide it into your GNS 430 or 530. Power on the unit — it will recognize the updated database automatically.
Your GNS unit displays the new AIRAC cycle number on startup.
Recommended USB Adapters
Any PCMCIA Type II USB adapter will work. These models have been tested and confirmed compatible with NavCard GPS.
Safari users: Safari does not support the WebUSB standard required for hardware communication. Please use Chrome or Edge. This is a browser limitation, not a NavCard GPS limitation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this work with my original Garmin data card?
Yes. NavCard GPS is designed to work with existing Garmin GNS 430 and GNS 530 data cards. The site reads your existing card, confirms compatibility, and writes the current AIRAC data to it. Your original card becomes a NavCard GPS-updated card.
What if I have a GNS 430W or 530W (WAAS)?
WAAS units require a different data set (WAAS Complete or WAAS Premium). The site automatically detects your card type and selects the correct data. Make sure you choose the WAAS plan when subscribing.
Does this work on a Mac?
Yes, with Chrome or Edge browser. Safari does not support the WebUSB standard required for hardware communication. We recommend Chrome for the best experience on both Mac and Windows.
What if the write fails halfway through?
The write process is designed to be atomic — either it completes fully or it does not write at all. If a write is interrupted, your original card data remains intact. Simply retry the process.
Can I use my subscription to update multiple cards?
Each subscription covers one card per AIRAC cycle. If you have two GNS units (e.g., a 430 and a 530), you will need a subscription for each card.
Do I need to buy a new NavCard GPS card?
No — this service is specifically designed to update your existing card. If you want a brand-new NavCard GPS card (with our hardware warranty), that is available as part of our Kit packages launching August 2026.
